On the night of April 14, 2022, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the missile cruiser "Moscow", the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, with two Neptune missiles. The destruction of the cruiser "Moscow" has symbolic, diplomatic and military significance. This was a major blow to the Russian navy and a sign of the beginning of a new era of warfare, in which missiles from shore destroy the most formidable and powerful ships.

In the first days of the war, the cruiser "Moscow" threatened the Ukrainian border guards and the defenders of Zmeiny Island. Ukrainian soldiers then uttered the famous phrase: “Russian warship, go ....”, which indicates the direction (place) where the Russian fleet and army should go, and from where they will not be able to return.

The cruiser "Moscow" had on board many missiles with which the Russian army was going to fire at Ukrainian cities. "Moscow" was going to support the Russian attack on Odessa and Nikolaev. They planned to use landing ships that would deliver soldiers and equipment to the shore. Now that the cruiser is at the bottom of the Black Sea, any amphibious attack from the sea will be impossible. And this undermines Russia's plans to take over Ukraine, since this incident showed that its ships are very vulnerable to Ukrainian attacks.
