DAVID

One of Rudy Krymsky's works depicts the young David (created by Michelangelo during the Italian Renaissance) who, together with Ukrainian soldiers, resists Russian aggression. He calls to follow the path of heroes - to fight for the freedom of Ukraine, for the future of Europe.

Rudy Krymsky changes our understanding of the purpose of museum art. He makes us remember that biblical and ancient heroes once performed feats in the name of their countries and peoples. The great artists of past centuries who created these images were full of high feelings, love and compassion for people. By portraying famous heroes at the centre of military processes of today, the author is trying to tell us that the geniuses of past centuries and their creations continue to live among us, they call on us to act, fight, and crush the enemy.

We are used to seeing masterpieces of art in museums and exhibition halls, where they are safe, under the protection of curators and alarms. We are accustomed to the fact that the characters depicted in paintings and sculptures look distantly (indifferently) at the crowds of people who have come to gaze at them. So it is somewhat unexpected to see David together with Ukrainian soldiers. At the same time, it is very correct that the artist depicted David (symbolizing Ukraine), which is fighting with the huge monster Goliath (Russia), which will ultimately be defeated.
